Vision for the School
Many of you may be wondering where the school will be going in the future. Moving away from Capitol Hill was a big deal, and as we settle in to our new neighborhood and new surroundings it is time to move forward with our new vision. Where Quantum was a business venture with the juice bar, saunas etc., MAPI is focused on making a difference. The outreach programs that you have been hearing about are right around the corner, and we need your help to make them happen.
For some of you, having the extra time to become part time teachers will be how you contribute; for others with more money than time, financial contributions will be a part of our movement forward. And still for others, helping to maintain and build the population of the school or establish contacts for our outreach programs will be a way to help.
Many Martial Arts schools are focused on tournaments or competitions to bring focus to a school. We don't participate in these functions for a variety of reasons, so having a goal of helping the community seems to make sense for us. Working with troubled teenagers, or developmentally disabled youth, or just targeting domestic violence in our communities can and does make a difference. Having lofty goals such as these can do nothing but enrich your experience in the Martial Arts. More teachers are needed before we can begin to send out people. To be a teacher takes a commitment to your training and propels you forward at an exponential rate. Helping others is a way of helping yourself. Being a teacher has been and continues to be the most important thing I have ever done. I can only hope that there are many of you who will join me in making our new incarnation as Martial Arts in the Public Interest a successful venture.
